SR22 Insurance in Seattle
An SR-22 is a certificate your insurer files with the Washington Department of Licensing to prove you carry at least the state's minimum liability coverage, usually after a DUI, reckless driving, driving while suspended or an uninsured at-fault accident. DOL typically requires it for three years. We quote several carriers for Seattle drivers, bind the policy and file the SR-22 electronically, usually the same business day.

When Seattle drivers are asked for an SR-22
The Washington Department of Licensing asks for an SR-22 before it reinstates a license after certain suspensions: a DUI, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, an at-fault accident without insurance, or habitual traffic offender status. Your reinstatement letter from DOL says whether a filing is required and from which date. The SR-22 is not a separate kind of insurance. It is a form the insurance company attaches to a regular auto policy, or to a non-owner policy, and sends to DOL to confirm the coverage is in force.
What the filing must cover
The policy behind the SR-22 has to meet at least Washington's minimum liability limits: $25,000 for injury to one person, $50,000 per accident for all injuries and $10,000 for property damage (RCW 46.30.020). That is the legal floor, not a recommendation. Liability at the minimum leaves your own car and your own medical bills uncovered, so we show you the price of higher limits, collision and comprehensive next to the minimum and you decide. If you finance or lease the car, the lender will still require collision and comprehensive.
Non-owner SR-22 if you do not have a car
Many people who need an SR-22 do not own a vehicle at the moment: they sold it, share a household car they are not listed on, or rely on transit and rideshare in Seattle. A non-owner policy with an SR-22 filing satisfies DOL and is usually the least expensive way to get the license back. It covers your liability when you occasionally drive a car you do not own. When you buy a car later, we move the filing to a regular policy without a gap.
Keep it in force for the whole period
DOL generally requires the SR-22 for three years from the date you become eligible to reinstate. The filing has to stay continuous. If the policy cancels for non-payment or is not renewed, the insurer must notify DOL and the license is suspended again, and the required period can start over. We set up automatic payments and renewal reminders, and if a carrier non-renews you we move the policy and the filing before the old one ends.
Why the price differs so much between companies
Carriers treat a DUI, a suspension or a coverage lapse very differently. Some decline these drivers entirely, others specialize in them, and the price for the same driver and the same coverage can vary widely. As an independent agency appointed with Progressive, Bristol West, Dairyland and other companies, we quote several of them in one conversation and show you each price for identical coverage. Once the violation ages and the requirement ends, we re-shop the policy so the premium comes back down.
How to start
Have your driver's license number, the DOL letter if you have it, and the vehicle identification number if you own a car. Call (425) 610-6909 or send the quote form. We bind the policy, file the SR-22 electronically and send you a copy of the certificate. We serve Seattle and the rest of King County from our Kirkland office, and our agents speak English and Russian.
